This is our Summer public star party at Vasquez Rocks Natural Area.

Sundown is scheduled for 8:07 this evening so it will be a short night. We must leave by 11pm. We will be there at 6pm to set up and the public is welcome to come early and chat with the astronomers. We will have some solar scopes set up to look safely at the sun.

This is also a pizza party for club members!

The Milky Way should be up in all it's glory and there are lots of summer targets to look at. Jupiter and Venus are still around and Saturn is high overhead.

The public is encouraged to attend. If you have that old telescope sitting in the closet, please bring it with you. We'll help you set it up and get you observing!

Enter the park via the main gate, turn left at the ranger station and continue to the end of the road past the large rocks.

Notes:

This is a County Park so please be mindful of the rules. aka, no alcohol. No smoking of any kind except in your vehicle. The park normally closes at sundown but during our Star Parties, we make special arrangements to have the gates open until the event concludes. Also, please stay at the event after dark. The rest of the park is not open to the public after dark and you will be asked to leave if you stray from the event area.
